European Heritage Open Day Tour 2018

Celebrate European Heritage Open Day With Lough Neagh Partnership

Celebrate European Heritage Open Day on Saturday 8 September on this free to attend tour from Belfast into the heart of counties Antrim and Tyrone.

Hosted by Lough Neagh Partnership you will be transported by coach from Belfast to Arthur Cottage in Cullybackey where your appetite will be well and truly whetted with a baking demo and tour of the cottage. The ancestral home of Chester Alan Arthur, 21st President of the United States of America, has been carefully restored and provides visitors with a unique insight into how the family lived at the cottage in the late 18th century.

You’ll be able to sample the freshly made soda bread at the cottage, awarded four stars by Tourism Northern Ireland, before stepping back on the coach for the short journey to Coyle’s Cottage in nearby Co Tyrone.

Coyle’s Cottage, situated on the Western shore of Lough Neagh, is a traditional fisherman’s cottage estimated to be more than 200 years old. An example of the type of home the fishermen occupied in the 1700 and 1800s while raising their family and spending endless hours on the lough, fishing for pollan, trout and the world-renowned Lough Neagh Eel.

As lunchtime approaches, you will be transported to The Old Thatch Inn where you will have the option to buy lunch before stepping back in time at Crosskeys Inn – the oldest thatched pub in Ireland. Steeped in history and famous for its traditional music sessions, Crosskeys Inn is a must see traditional Irish pub where you might want to sample a pint of the black stuff before your return journey to Belfast.

Please note that transport is included in the tour free of charge but refreshments at The Old Thatch Inn and Crosskeys Inn are not included but are available for visitors to purchase directly.

Tour leaves Belfast (at the bus stop outside Topshop on Chichester Street) at 9.00am and arrives back at (to the starting point) at 5.00pm.
